what is a Hair Transplant?

Hair loss can create embarrassment for many women and men. Caused by a variety of reasons, such as stress, genetics, age, hormones, medical conditions, over-styling, or certain hair products, hair loss can greatly affect a person’s self-esteem. Using innovative research in the hair restoration field, we offer advanced treatment options to help address the problem. Our board-certified physicians proudly offer follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT) treatments to our Little Rock, AR patients. These popular hair restoration procedures have provided encouraging results for men and women. Both surgeries use a similar technique, which transplants a patient’s healthy hair follicles to thinner or bald parts of the scalp. Please call to schedule an appointment and learn more about both of these treatments and how they can help you attain your goals. With compassion, we will work with each patient to ensure we address their questions and provide the best treatment options.

am i a Candidate for a Hair Transplant?

At your consultation with one of our expert physicians, we will assess your scalp to identify the best procedure for your hair condition. To receive either FUE or FUT, patients should have a sufficient amount of hair on the bottom of their scalp. If you do, we can transplant the healthy follicles to the thinning parts of your hair. Ideal candidates for this surgery should only have frontal or partial hair loss. Also, we can combine this procedure with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for patients. Using your nutrient-rich plasma, this treatment stimulates the scalp, which promotes hair growth. We can perform this procedure on anybody (males/female/transgenders) who experiences thinning hair.

how does a Hair Transplant work?

FUE – We will perform the FUE procedure in our Little Rock, AR office. Our skilled physicians start by numbing your skin with local anesthesia. Additionally, we can provide an oral sedative to help you remain relaxed throughout your procedure. Once you are completely numb, we will transplant the donor follicles from the back of your scalp because hair growth in this area is constant. If the size of your graft is medium or large, we may need to shave the back and sides of your scalp. For smaller treatments (under 1,000 – 1,200 grafts), we may only need to shave a small strip of hair, which you can usually conceal with the surrounding hair. Our physicians remove the donor hair in follicular units or about 1 – 4 hairs per section and then transplant them within the balding areas. This process is randomized so your hair grows back and conceals the extracted follicles. To ensure we create the most natural-looking results, we will assess several factors, including the angle, depth, orientation, and density of your scalp.

FUT – We remove donor follicles from the back of your scalp because the hair growth in this area is normally permanent. During your procedure, one of our physicians extracts donor tissue in a small, thin strip. After we remove the tissue, we will close the area with sutures. This will create a scar that looks like a small line and is about 1 – 2 millimeters wide. The hair near the donor site will cover the area so you can hide it after your treatment. Generally, the amount of hair follicles that we can transplant is based on your scalp characteristics, including texture, follicle density, and the skin’s elasticity. Follicular grafts usually have around 1 – 4 hair follicles in each section. We make tiny incisions to transplant the hair follicles in the recipient sites. To achieve the most natural-looking results, we will determine the proper angle, depth, orientation, and density of your scalp.

how long is recovery after a hair transplant?

Based on the treatment technique, patients may require some recovery time. This can range from a few days to a couple of weeks. For each procedure, patients may experience certain side effects, such as redness, swelling, and tenderness near the treatment areas. We will provide proper aftercare instructions to help your scalp heal. These instructions should include information about caring for your incisions, avoiding certain activities, and preventing infection. We highly recommend following these instructions to accelerate your healing and reduce the chance of infection. Additionally, we will schedule follow-up appointments so we can ensure your scalp is healing correctly.

Hair Transplant FAQs

Is hair transplant surgery safe?
Yes, hair transplant surgery is safe when performed by an experienced specialist. However, as with any procedure, there are always some risks involved. Nirvana Med Spa in Little Rock, AR can explain these risks in detail and help you make the best decision for your individual case. Our goal is always to provide our patients with the safest and most effective treatment possible.

Does hair transplant surgery hurt?
The pain experienced during hair transplant surgery varies among our Little Rock, AR patients. However, most patients report feeling only a minor amount of discomfort. Our team provides local anesthesia — so you feel at ease throughout the procedure. We may offer additional options for patients who experience anxiety or have a low pain tolerance.

Will my hair transplant results look natural?
Your hair transplant results should look very realistic. This is because our clinic in Little Rock, AR is known for using the latest tools and techniques in the industry. Our methods are far better than hair plugs or other outdated treatments. We always work hard to ensure that each patient is completely satisfied with their results.

Should I choose FUE or FUT?
No matter what decision a patient makes when it comes to FUE or FUT, the results should appear similar. The difference between the two lies in the graft extraction technique for the donor area. FUT leaves a linear scar on the back of the scalp, so it is usually reserved for patients who wear their hair longer.

How long will my hair transplant results last?
In many cases, hair transplant results from the FUE or FUT method will last a lifetime. However, these results are not guaranteed. In some circumstances, the transplanted hair may begin to thin and another transplant may be required at Nirvana Med Spa. Additionally, it may take up to a year following the transplant for final results to develop.

Does hair transplant surgery lead to scars?
It is probable that individuals may encounter some scarring following a hair transplant procedure. Scarring will depend on the body's capacity to heal, the strips of hair utilized, and more. Nevertheless, our team at Nirvana Med Spa in Little Rock, AR uses the latest technologies, modern techniques, and an artistic touch to diminish scarring to the fullest extent. Oftentimes, any scarring is covered by your hair too.
