What is Liposuction and Fat Transfer?
Liposuction and fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, are cosmetic procedures that involve removing fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another:
-
Liposuction
Uses suction technology to remove fat cells from a small tube through two small incisions. The donor areas are usually the abdomen, flanks, or thighs. Liposuction can treat certain medical conditions, reduce cellulite, and boost self-confidence. Risks include bruising, numbness, infection, burns, and internal punctures. -
Fat transfer
Involves purifying and injecting the fat cells into a more desirable area of the body. The target areas can include the face, breasts, buttocks, hands, cheeks, brow, temples, nasolabial folds, or hollows of the face. Fat transfer to the buttocks is commonly referred to as a Brazilian butt lift. Fat transfer can be used in conjunction with revision liposuction to restore volume to the treatment area and correct asymmetries caused by a previous liposuction procedure.

How Long is the Recovery for Liposuction and Fat Transfer?
The procedure can take between 15 minutes and two hours and is usually an outpatient procedure that doesn't require an overnight hospital stay. You may experience mild discomfort for one or two days, swelling that can take up to a week to fade, and soreness, swelling, and bruising at all surgery sites for at least 2-4 weeks. Scars from these procedures are usually small, not very visible, and easily concealed under clothing or undergarments.
